Crio, yes it was. We barely kept any of the dogs a year besides the doxies. It was heartbreaking.

Well, now that I'm older, I bought Java. So he won't be going anywhere.

This made me laugh. My vet calls our house..."the freak show" because half the beasties are handmedown animals no one wanted, would have euthed or couldn't keep alive. But I like the 'broken in some way."

I have some dogs we got "on purpose" and some that came to us.

I got Border Collies on purpose. I used to breed them.....just before they were even in the misc class and were working dogs period. I still have two old girls....beyond their work, though Kelsey still takes geese off the pond at the kennel when they look like they are getting too comfortable. I love their thought patterns though now they are a bit more energy than I want or have outlets for...so I don't know that I would get more unless I inherit some sheep too.

Bullmastiffs....on purpose and love them in their driven loyalty, sense of duty and looks. Hate that they are shorter lived. Will definitely have more some day....already have the next one named.

Beagle, my son got on purpose....NEVER would own another...especially from hunting lines. Most selfish, greedy, possessive dog I have ever admitted defeat to. Several trainers did too. Probably an individual thing, but never want another. Even if he will stop on a dime and recall from anywhere .....for the word BISCUIT.

Brussels Griffon....got given 'cause she kept going hypoglycemic as a pup and after months of mothering we couldn't rehome her even though she was our first dog under 25# and nothing we thought we'd want. She is one of the most loving, sweet, gentle, patient, well balanced dogs on the planet. She is obedient, intuitive and a great therapy dog even when the alzheimers ladys squeeze her too tight. Definitely get another.

Rhodesian Ridgeback.....literally tried to follow me home and anywhere else. I think he is the exception, though I think they are all loyal, loving and stable for the most part I think we lucked out that Norbert is so mellow, patient and not a mean or prey driven bone in him. Hate that he has allergies but otherwise a great dog.

Have had and would get again....Westies...love their drive, their 'game for anything attitude' and their wash and wear or fancy them up looks. Hated some of the health issues but loved the dogs.

Schnauzers....have had minis but work with a giant and would get either again. Think they are some of the most stable breeds and love the cocky look and way they scruff up or slick down depending on the grooming.

Would get a GSD if my homeowners allowed them and if the right dog came up I might change insurance companies. Have had years ago and work with a couple that are great dogs....though the ones at work needed more work as young dogs. Would have to have the right breeding and I would have to have something for them to do.

Almost forgot ...poodles. First dog I got in the 70s that was purebred and I paid for and one of the best dogs I owned. Smart most social dog, went everywhere and did anything with me. Dog lived to got to college, get married and see my first child born. Pushing 19 yrs. Will have another.

So many dogs, so little time and space.

I didn't choose Suzie, we found her one the side of the road. But I would choose a dog like her in a heartbeat.

Fun Topic! Well I actually grew up on a farm where we always had a Border Collie, Aussie, or Blue Heeler for Cattle purposes. I'm on the radio, and work with the local animal shelters and the guy called me to come look at a puppy.. Meet Pandora! Thats where my first shih-tzu came from. She died last year, but after having her for 10 years I knew I would NEVER be without a Shih-tzu again. I know mixed breeds live longer, but I just wanted a full-blood Tzu, so I went to a breeder and got Miss Payslee..then 2 months later, found Sawyer in a ladies home that didn't want him anymore, and Saw came into my life. I love the Shih-tzu personality..They are wildly expressive and so funny! As you can see in my Avatar Payslee has quite a silly personality..but they are also very smart. Both Sawyer & Rally are great Therapy dogs, and Payslee loves to learn. The best thing about Tzu's though? They are bred to sit on the laps of emperors, so they are PERFECT lapdogs..Always up for a cuddle, a carry, or to just rest on your lap to sleep..I'll always have one for the rest of my life!

I chose a Border collie because they are so smart, high energy and such fun! As a consequence you can have a real interactive relationship with them, oh and play lots of frisby!

My opinion, I have never owned a dog more intelligent, more versatil, and down right full of personality then the APBT. Many can say the same about thier breed of choice but to me a truely well bred and socialized apbt is such a joy to have around. They are great with kids and love humans no matter the abuse and cruelty they go through. They went through pain for their owners, even died for them. The thing is this breed is everything and more and I stand strongly by the breeds side and I will return the battle, I will fight for them as they did for us so many years ago.

so in otherwords the 'pitbull' or apbt is my breed of choice because they are an all around everything dog. They have been in my life and I have loved them for many years. I don't agree about mixed pits but a true apbt, one who has been bred respnsably for all the right traits i such a loving trusting dog that I can't see how anyone would ever be afraid of them.

They just don't know a great american spirit when they look it in the eyes.

I chosen a Finnish Lapphund because they are smart and easy dogs. My dog is my first and just perfect to me. She comes out no matter what sort of weather there is and she doesn't fear snow or rain. And that is a good thing.
These dogs can be energy but they don't go ape if they don't have constantly something what to do.

This might sound silly, but a relative of mine, (through adoptions only) has been getting any kind of dog she wanted. She used to have a beautiful alaskan husky with some kind of different mix and they had an accedentle litter. This young girl who was 7 to 8 years old was trying to find homes for the puppies. (Her grandfather was going to send them to the pound otherwise.) Horrible I know. So I decided to help out and looked at the litter. And there he was, my alaskan husky mix of unknown breeds. He was the runt of his litter and decided to take him. (Now he is bigger than the rest of his littermates.) I have only found one of his littermates. The others have either died or I have never seen them again.
