Toy Australian Shepherd

I was at work earlier, and a lady came in holding the epitome of cuteness, a toy Australian shepherd. At first, I thought it was just a 4 or 5 week old Australian Shepherd puppy, but he was 3 months old. I didn't know that there were miniature ones!! I want one so bad!

We have one that lives on our street. It's not very nice though, always yapping like crazy at us as we walk by. :/

Depending on who you ask depends on if you get a warm reception to the idea of the toy/mini aussies. We have a 12week old mini aussie. He is wonderful! So smart. He should probably be about the size of our eskie. Chloe, the eskie is approx 14' at shoulders. Skyler, our aussie, dad was 15.5" and mom was a petite 10.5in but Skyler has a much larger & stronger bone structure than his mom so he appears to be taking after his dad - he also looks like his dad.

I don't personally like toy dogs, they are cute but it just seems like they will break but I like them small enough that I can pack them around easy enough and not feel the need to dress them or carry them constantly. Both of our dogs is about the same as a sheltie if that gives a better size reference.

I think most of them are cute, but sometimes the toys get the weird bug-eyes-looking-in-different-directions thing plus all around are kinda.. Out of proportion? I like the minis though. I think Kitty might actually be a mini (aren't they classed by weight?) she is very petite at 28lbs.

None of them that the breeder had I would say were close to bug eyed - that makes me think of a pom. See pics in my profile of Skyler, can't say little guy is bug eyed - he actually is very well balanced in skull & body structure.

The Aussie breeders I know do frown on these. And why is that they are usually a drawf or attempt to drawf and they are worried about problems coming back into their breeder due to the smaller size.
They are awfully cute though! We will see what happens with them- who knows- could be like the Eskimo that is now in 3 sizes.. Hard to say.

There are many breeds that have multiple sizes. Mini aussie have been around for years & now getting very popular. I know many do frown down on them but just about every breed has gone thru its social negatives - eskies were not even recognized until the '90's yet they have been around since 1800's. We love their size & chose our aussie carefully with an experienced breeder.
