Question Rescued Stray Last Week - Need the Breed! :)

Hello everyone! I would like to introduce you to Mattie, a stray I found digging for food in a gutter of a busy street last week. We found out early on that she is a SWEET, SMART and GOOD puppy dog! These photos were taken the night I found her and brought her to my parents house. Since then, she has been through a complete vet checkup, shots, heartworm negative (yay!), and minus some skin irritation (we think from the detergent my parents use that has since been changed), she is in perfect health.

The vet staff loves her so much that a vet tech even took her home for a sleepover with her dogs last weekend when I had her boarded for a couple of nights. The vet clinic is Mattie's new favorite place. She didn't resist the shots at all - didn't even have to be restrained, and waited in the exam room whining for the vets to come BACK in! I gave her a bath - stood still the whole time. She keeps all of her toys on her bed - she's learning how to play as a puppy should.

They think she is almost full grown at 32.8 lbs, and they estimate she is 6-12 months old. Red-Gold-Brown light brindle coat with golden eyes. She's a lover for sure! She behaves better than my 10 yr old lab! She's so intuitive and gentle - and just stares into your eyes as you're petting her, and she melts into the ground.

I am thinking she is some sort of staff/pit mix - but I just don't know? Can I have your opinions as well? What do you think? Thank you in advance!

I would say that she definitely looks to primarily be some type of bully breed such as a pit or amstaf. She is very cute

^^ I agree. What a sweet dog for a stray, she must have had a good home at some point in her life at least.

Thank you Sarah and MSE.
Someone even said Staffordshire and Jack Russell - then someone else said Pit and Lab.
I am also wondering if she is in fact full grown.

People make me so mad sometimes. I was lucky enough to find her soon after she had been on her own - it couldn't have been too long. No one is looking for her. no collar & no microchip... Yet she's as sweet as she can be.

My parents have had shihtzus for 20 years - and they are considering taking her in for the long haul. She's that good. But if she is in fact mostly a bully breed I want to make sure they socialize her w/ other dogs well starting NOW, - b/c this is NOT a shihtzu puppy and can't be treated the same, you know?

I think she looks like a pitbull x labrador. Either way she's cute

I'd say pitt and lab for sure Adorable And kudo's on rescuing.

I have to ask since you didn't say; did you make any efforts to find her owners? In most area's you cannot keep a stray dog without going through some sort of effort to find owners.

Thank you everyone! I must say I agree to all of the above, but I am a bit biased. LOL

Mikey - oh yes - I've been searching frantically for the owner - posted on Craigslist, Petfinder, our local paper, searched the neighborhood where I found her and have the word out to multiple rescues as well. Nothing has come up for her.

My parents said they can keep her until I find a good home (month or so). They have been going back and forth debating whether to keep her, and I think at their age they don't want to commit to another dog for the next 10+ years. Unfortunately (or fortunately ) I cannot comprehend that feeling but I have to go with what is the best interest of the pup. And a great home is a requirement.

Right now, she is definitely being spoiled over there. They said she is already housetrained too. She's just amazing.

Now to search for a home............ a good home.......... I think this will be harder than I thought. Good people & good homes are hard to find.
