| Presa canario x American bulldog Hi everyone,
i have an American bulldog x Presa canario puppy, he is almost 5 months old, he is growing very well, does anyone know how much he'll weigh when hes older & also how tall? so far, he is an inch smaller then a fully grown shar pei & everyone we meet says he has huge paws & they say he'll be a very big dog, at the age of 8 weeks he weighed 5kg, at the age of 12 weeks he weighed 10kg, so as you can see he is growing pretty quickly!! so, yh, i need to know how big he'll be & how much he'll weigh & also i would like to know if he'll be a large or giant breed dog??
thanks |

| Did you see his parents? Their size will give you some indication. I have seen American Bulldogs anywhere from 60-110# s so that is a wide range. (so that is 27-55kilos) Personally I would worry about his temperament and self control far more than his possible size. That and slowing his growth, not speeding it. Growing fast is NOT good for a large breed. Slow growth is healthier for joints and bone density. Most mastiffs don't finish growing until they are three years old. If you rush his growth with puppy chow you will end up with joint issues at best and other health problems also. Take him everywhere and introduce him to lots of good experiences. |

| I just flipped through my dog breed books.
They said that American Bulldogs range in size from 60-130 lbs and that Presa Canarios can weigh up to around 100 lbs.
You are definitely going to gave a large and very powerful dog on your hands. From what I do know about both those breeds, you really need to be be working at socializing your pup. Both breeds tend to be dog agressive especially to other dogs of the same sex.
I think it would be a really good idea to find a great trainer who has a ton of experience, especially in training powerful breed dogs.
And I agree with Gone2Dogs! I know a couple who breeds and shows St. Bernards. I know that they work really hard to make sure that they educate the people who buy their pups on how to properly raise a large/giant breed dog so the dog will have healthy bones and joints.
Definitely discuss this with your vet. |

| He had better be social at this age. When you need to really continue the socialization is through the next two years. I see dogs start getting problematic at around 8 months, again at about 18months and then until 3 years old. You can't just say that because he is good as an infant he will continue as such. KEEP WORKING WITH HIM FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. |

| okay, thanks, over 100lbs! he's gonna be huge! , yh, Gone2Dogs, your right, i will never stop socialising him, i bought him to make him into a big, nice, good temperament dog, so i can prove to some of the people out there that certain breeds of dogs are NOT aggressive!! but thanks for all your help! |
