I had never actually been around a pit bull until about 4 months ago when I started volunteering for a rescue. I like them and I think they are beautiful, but I still don't think I would want to own one. Call it paranoia, but I don't think I would ever be able to fully trust the dog and without trust, you can't form a relationship. I know it seems silly, but it is how I feel deep down. I have absoultely nothing against them (in fact one of our rescue pits climbed ito my lap and was happy as can be--I wasn't! She was a beast!) :-)

I love pits too. They are big energetic dogs with great personalities. They get such a bad rap, and it just breaks my heart.

When we adopted our pup last week I was admiring one of the adult pits they had up for adoption. She was gorgeous! And this stupid woman behind me walked by and said, "Oh my god thats a pitbull...keep walking nobody will want that dog..." It really burned me up.

That's so sad ScentHound. I'm glad you could give her a better life (same to all the others with rescues here).

Some people think my puppy is a Pit mix but I really don't know. She is very sweet, friendly, energetic and a little stubborn, so I definitely think there's some kind of Terrier in there.

Other than that I haven't met many in person and haven't really interacted with any except a really pretty white puppy in our socialization and obedience classes. He seems like a really sweet dog overall but he sure does play rougher than the other puppies in class.

But having a possible mix has really made me a lot more sensitive to the breed prejudice out there and has made me appreciate the breed more in general, whether my puppy has Pit in her or not. And, the fact that some people think she may look like a Pit means she could be labeled as one in many places, which worries me.

I adopted my pit in March from the city pound. I love love love her. She definitely has some nerves stuff which can bring out some aggressive tendencies. But I just make sure she gets plenty of love and attention and I pay close attention to her needs and body language. So far almost everyone she comes in contact with loves her and she loves them right back.

I prefer BC's , but I have nothing against Pitts as a breed ... I just wanted to say a huge well done to those of you who rescued them or worked on aggression issues with those unfortunate enough to have been used for fighting etc

I can say that I was in charge of walking one of our pitty girls in our rescue and I took her outside. A lady was walking towards us with a smaller dog and she immediately picked her dog up and walked into the parking lot to avoid passing us. It was at that moment that I witnessed first hand how much fear there is surrounding pits. I was sad for Precious (AKA Momma) because she was a super sweet girl. Luckily, the rescue founder couldn't bear to part with her and kept her

There is a female pit that wonders around the neighborhood every once in a while. First time she introduced herself was when I was working under the Jeep. She crawled under with me and licked the side of my face. Scared the heck out of me. Now she comes to visit everytime she escapes from her fence. I keep an eye on her until the owner walks up and gets her.

I am a proud owner of a deaf white pit bull so clearly love them I think they are great dogs, just bad people tend to get ahold of them, but those people could drag any breeds name through the mud.
