| i love them, my reason is that i love all dogs... if i have a problem with an individual dog i will not let it taint my view of the breed, after all, punish the deed not the breed! my partner had staffies and bullies american staffies are illegal in UK, where we live, this is the reason he doesnt have them too. |

| Genetics does play a part in dogs just like it plays a part in humans. Thus why BYB needs to stop, especially pit bull BYB Posted via Mobile Device |

| I believe BYB stands for "backyard breeders."
I LOVELOVELOVE pit bulls! I do agree that genetics plays a part in it because they're a high-strung prey-driven terrier just like JRTs or westies. I think the main reason people are so much more afraid of them is because they're a lot bigger and more muscular than a lot of other terriers. It does take a certain kind of person to be able to handle that, but that being said, they're still wonderful dogs.
My 10mo baby is my first pit that I've owned personally and I'm so completely in love with him, I don't ever want to own any other breed. He's incredibly smart, funny, and loyal, and aside from his one incident with a chicken (he chased it into the woods and it never came back) he's been EXCELLENT around other animals. He wrestles with my cat and she absolutely loves him.
I do work at a kennel that gets in LOTS of pit bulls and pit mixes and there's only ever been one who made me nervous (and it was mostly because I couldn't read him, couldn't tell if he was happy or not) and other than that they've all been wonderful. Just silly, dopey, and excited about life. Although there's one who has stayed with us for three months solid (she's only 8 months old) and doesn't get to play with any other dogs and she's wild and sad, but, that's a story for another time.
I think if you've got the time and patience and passion for the breed, you can have a wonderful dog. I trust mine with my life and love him with all my heart. |

its probably so obvious! | There are no stupid questions yes it is backyard breeding, meaning breeding done without health tests, registration, etc etc. Typically how mutts are produced or badly bred "pure breds" and very common among pit bull terriers Posted via Mobile Device |

| I'm pretty sure my baby came from a byb, we adopted him from a shelter at 9 weeks old. They had a litter of seven, as well as momma and two potential daddies. So sad, but glad to get my sweetheart!
I think he's the best thing that's ever happened to me.
And for the record, I'm much more afraid of JRTs than pit bulls. I've been attacked by three. |
