Smile Newfoundlands

I just love the newfoundland breed and I am looking in to getting a newfoundland/newfoundland mix.

I am looking for a mix that will have tighter jowls and a little bit more energy..(and ideally a little easier to train) but i know that a tall order.

What would be a good/popular dog to mix with a newfie to try and get what i am looking for.

I love the stable mind and the loving and laid back personality of a newfoundland but i am younger and looking for a dog with a little bit more energy ...and hopefully less drool.

thank you

i wouldn't suggest mixing any breeds

try this:
Pet Search Results: Adoptable Newfoundland Dog Dog Pets in Gardnerville, NV: Petfinder.

I agree with Fawkese, I think you can find a wonderful dog that's already in a rescue waiting to be adopted and alot of those dogs are mixes and the ones on the site she posted should have more energy with lab or border collie mixed in.

I'd perhaps look on petfinder or for a newfie rescue. A lot of times those sorts of organizations will list dogs as mixes with the primary breed being what you are looking for.

Good luck and do let us know if you find your dream dog!

If you want a similar dog with less drooling, I would like to suggest a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. The have much shorter coat, and they are great working dogs. Breed to pull carts, they have draft cart competition, and also backpacking outings in local clubs.

Just a thought. I went to their National Specialty last year and really liked them.

I love, love, love Newfies. They are on my "breed of dog I'd like to own" list . The few that I've met actually aren't as lazy as they appear. I hope you post pics when you adopt yours!

It sounds like the OP isn't actually looking to "mix" two breeds his/herself, but is just wondering what type of mix to keep his/her eyes out for during the search.

To the OP: like someone said, a lot of rescues list mixbreeds as just the main breed on Petfinder, so if in doubt, contact the rescue and find out if/what it's mixed with....
