Oh believe me, those little dogs are able to figure it out. There are plenty of instances of smaller dogs mating with much bigger dogs, and vice versa, but little dogs carrying big dog puppies usually have very difficult pregnancies and births.

...What makes you say that's impossible? My aunt knew someone who had an oops litter from her Great Dane bitch and male Dachshund. I've seen online a successful mating of a Rottie bitch and Westie. I've also seen another of a Mastiff mix bitch and Pomeranian. Not to mention the recent popularity of the abomination "Pomskies". If the father is the smaller dog it's completely and totally possible. However if the mother is small she would likely die in childbirth or even while pregnant. Breeding two dogs of drastic size differences is a terrible, dangerous idea to do on purpose. However if there are two intact dogs of various sizes left to their own devices...it's going to happen!

could be chihuahua and it does work indeed. I saw a dachshund german shepherd mix a while back so it is definetly possible if the father is the smaller dog.
I have been reading about another dog in a forum that was kind of huge but had 80% chihuahua in it, confirmed by three different dna tests. The owner still finds it hard to believe.
