Help selecting breed of dog - lagotto, spanish water dog, barbet?

I have badly wanted a dog since I was a child, but I am allergic. I am taking allergy shots, and I have spent time with some of the "hypoallergenic" breeds and not had reactions; however, I would NEVER purchase a puppy without visiting it first to establish my allergy state.

I have an acre of property, with a 4700 sq. Foot house. I live alone and I am very active. I have a huge pool that the dogs would love. I live near desert trails and would love a dog to take out hiking and exploring trails in my beautiful state of AZ. The dog would go everywhere with me - coffee shops, errands, etc. He/she would be my buddy.

My three main concerns are: 1. My allergies - I am getting allergy shots. I would not purchase without visiting first to establish I am not allergic. I did visit a breeder of lagottos for a few hours once and did not have a rxn, but decided then that it was not a good time for me to have a dog.

2. Because I am allergic to dogs, I have small parrots as pets. They are my babies and mean the world to me. Two of them were severely neglected before I found them and they are the sweetest most affectionate little fluffs. They have their own room with large cages. They are out a lot (and they should be - for all intensive purposes they are wild animals). I have been told by dog owners, breeders and a vet, that I should be able to train a puppy to leave the birds alone, but of course I would never have both out unsupervised.

Third, I work a lot of hours, but I also get a lot of time off. 4 days a week will be longer days, but I would hire a dog walker to come by. The dog would have it's own room or area of the house, with a door outside to a gated area. It would get a walk twice a day, regardless. There is also a doggie day care on my way to work I would consider.

Based on these criteria, I think the lagotto is the best pick, but I am also wondering about the Swd, barbet, and Portuguese water dog. Does anyone have an opinion? Thank you!!!!

I'm also very interested in owning a lagotto someday, so I've done a lot of research. However, I have yet to actually meet a lagotto (just lots of reading and videos). I'd love to hear from others who have actually experienced these beautiful dogs.

From the research I've done-
Lagotto do not shed, but have only moderate grooming requirements (as opposed to the HIGH grooming requirements of most non-shedding breeds). Lagotto are active and love swimming. Lagotto are supposed to be sweet natured, intelligent, highly trainable, with a low prey drive.

It sounds like they would fit into your household very well. You are very lucky because there seem to be several high quality lagotto breeders in AZ.

Had this fun loving breed in my agility foundations class. Smart, happy with a great sense of humor. I think if you could find one you would have wn enjoyable companion. http://barbetclubofamerica.com/the-b...ked-questions/
