Do you think Bassets are the most adorable dogs you've ever seen?

If so the choice is simple!

If not...then I guess you have to do some research.

Is this your first dog?
What size of dog do you want?
Are there animal restrictions where you live?
Do you have a yard?
Is your yard fenced?
How often do you plan to walk your dog?
What kind of activities do you want to do with your dog?
How much grooming are you willing to do?
How long will you be leaving your dog home alone on a daily basis?
Do you have other pets?
Do you have kids(if so, how old?)?

These are just some questions that popped into my head. Answering them can help us give you some suggestions for breeds to look into. :]

a beagle, (sometimes a bit noisy) but a great dog breed. boston terrier or pug (great family dogs!), labs and golden retriever (a bit on the hyper side but very smart and friendly). Greyhound. schnauzer. all of these actually are great family dogs and have only minimal grooming requirements and can do some jogging walking and playing of course. they are all usually great with children and do good in a medium sized yard!

good luck on your search and when you get a dog show us lots of pics!!

Thanks for the reply!
And we were actually considering the boston terrier and the golden retriever!
Just one question about hte boston terriers. Are they prone to overheating in hot weather?
