A lot to be said for the breeding of a dog for a use vs a "pet", companion or toy or show......Before all the breed registrys made it sound so wonderful to own a purebred people only got dogs when they NEEDED one. Now that the world is, by and large, wealthier people have dogs just to have dogs. So the reason to breed is entirely different. Read back in the history of the breed of your choice and it wasn't that long ago that they were developed....unfortunately that time span covers HUNDREDS of doggy generations and lots of opportunity to inbreed a gene pool.
