funniest "mix" you've heard your dog could be...

I posted a thread about this on a corgi forum I am a member of. Tegan and I had a day on the town looking for things for Lyla when I first got her, and hardly anyone said "what a beautiful corgi!" they always would say "Is he a corgi mix?" "Corgi and aussie?" etc... because he's a tri color people just did not understand he was in fact pure corgi!

Then, the other day Lyla got called a Greyhound Dalmatian at the dog park which made me laugh SO hard, the girl had no idea I owned her and told her boyfriend, in a very matter of fact tone, that Lyla was a greyhound dalmatian....

Anyway, it just got me thinking, who else has funny uneducated people guessing the breeds of their dogs in the world?

Cleo was called a miniature foxhound once. I was astonished, and amused at the same time. Missy is usually greeted with, "what a cute doggy you are, what are you?" Most people have no idea what a coonhound is. I was actually quizzed in the petsmart one day when I told them she was a redbone coonhound. The lady in the dog section was snotty about it and said that she had never heard of that. I told her "that isn't unusually for people who live in the city and have never seen a real wild animal." Yep I was a smart alick with her.

Well, when I had my min pin, I always got super irritated when people called him a "mini doberman" since there is no such thing. I do love the way min pins look, though, and I always look at them on craigslist and petfinder (not to get another, trust me, I learned my lesson!). Someone trying to rehome one on CL called him a "mini pinch" (grrr) and said he never barked or "grawled." LOL.

Critter was called a peke twice in one week.

Scooter was always a fox or a coyote

Everyone always just calls the little ones Chihuahuas, even tho they are obviously mixes (to me) No one guesses on Emma...except they think shes a boy.

My boss has a Brussels griffon. I call in animal because he looks like animal from the Muppet's, but she had a person come up to him once and say..."My, what a nice........animal.....you have there." to which she replied. "He is a dog, sheesh."

I also call him manimal, because he is so expressive.

AWESOME Thread idea!!!

Mikey is a JRT/basset hound to many. SEriously. So many people are like-he looks like that dog from a) The Mask or b) Fraiser (both JRT) and several have said Basset.

TBH-could a basset mix with something and produce up ears-that doesn't seem logical but then a lot of genetics aren't. Perhaps drag on the floor one foot long ears are recessive ....

I had one of my Jrts in town one day, this girl has won several conformation championships and never placed lower than 3rd in any JRTCA trial. A very well bred bitch that I turned down an open check on to purchase her as a 4 month old puppy from a big breeder.

At any rate, this woman with a pud/silky terrier looking dog asked me what kind of dog my girl was and I told her Jrt. And she told me I was wrong that her dog was a 'purebred' jrt and mine wasn't.........lol. I wished her a nice day and moved on.
