Delilah Embark Test

For the holidays my parents got me the Embark DNA test (I got it now instead of Christmas because they currently have a deal where you get a free Dognition membership in addition to the DNA test). I'm interested to see what her breed will be- I know DNA tests aren't always accurate but this is supposed to be the most accurate one because it tests for 200,000 gene markers instead of the 1,800 Wisdom Panel tests for. The other thing is that it tests for 160 genetic diseases and disorders, and as Delilah is not very well bred and is already having issues with luxating patellas and canine compulsive disorder, I hope I can see if I have to expect any other issues in the future.

Anyways, I have a guess of what she is, I think she's at least part Toy Fox Terrier, if not purebred. The main thing that's stumping me is her coloring- it is not accepted in the standard and the only other TFT I've seen with the same coloring is half chihuahua. TFTs can be black and white, tan and white, black and tan and white, and chocolate and tan and white. Delilah's like red and white with a black mask.

She was found as a stray in Tennessee at about 5 months old. She has a docked tail, and she looks very much like a terrier to me, but most people guess chihuahua when they see a tiny dog with big ears. She weighs 6 lbs.

Who wants to take a guess at what the results will be?

I would say she could have some Rat Terrier and Chihuahua in her.

I'm thinking exactly that. If she's a mix I think it's with a very similar breed like those.

I think so too! Cute rabbit ears
Chihuahua mixes have those from time to time

Just got the test today! After I send in the sample, it will be 3-4 weeks to get the results.

My neighbor has a rat terrier and we always talk about how Delilah is like a mini version!

Zody's head is sort of like Delilah's and I get asked if he's rat terrier all the time, he's a Dach x Chi mix.

Best guess with Delilah would be a Chi mix, but I'm not sure about mixed with what.

The lab has received her sample and has begun processing it! Results will be available by "late January."

Results came last night!

I've got to head out soon so I'll talk a little about them later tonight or tomorrow. But here's her public profile for anyone who wants to check them out now:

Very very interesting. I think it was worth the price!

Also, there was a bit of a surprise in her results, that wasn't too surprising but again, very interesting. Explains a lot. Does anyone see what it is?

Wow! They give you a lot of information. I totally called that rat terrier part, although I wasn't expecting it to be so far back. And I can totally see Jack. I was surprised with how much information they gave including the genetic make up including the coat length and the hind declaw. Very cool test!
