She whines when she wants to meet someone

Hey all
Daisy is an 18 month old american cocker spaniel. Shes never vocal at home and doesnt whine when she wants something from me or even when she needs to go out. She only whines when we are walking and she sees another dog or human, kids are her favorite. It seems she is just saying "HI! im so happy to meet you pet me please!" She also whines if we are in the car and we drive by a dog or person.

Its really annoying, even though other dog walkers seem to think its cute.
Any ideas???
Thanks for the help!

As soon as I saw this title I laughed literally out loud. Mikey does the same thing!! He's doing it because we reinforce it -by talking to him when he does it. So at the dog park he'll see another dog or person and start whining. And then I say 'go say hi' and that gives him permission and he goes to say 'hi'

However in your case if it's bothering you-totally ignore it. Don't say anything, don't look at her and don't allow her to see the person/dog until she is quiet. She'll learn

Welcome by the way!! (that's too funny, Mikey loves kids the most too!)

that is sooo funny. "go say hi" is clover's cue to say hello too, and he does the same thing...not for adults, but for kids and other dogs...

I ususally find the whining annoying in the car, however no one else wants to walk her because they are embrrassed by her whining. And they think it also may give the impression that they/we are hurting her.
It is desperatly cute when she does it in the dog parks and the other dogs ignore her, haha. Im thinking maybe she will outgrow her foolishness eventually....

Well let them think that It's good people are looking out for other dog's welfare I just assure people he's very vocal and the often comment on their own that he's 'quite excited'

For whining in the car, my other dog used to do that. I'd just turn up the stereo so she knew I couldn't hear her. Three car rides she stopped

Just ensure you are ignoring the whining-and she'll likely stop

Sawyer does this too..Its like you are ruining his life if you don't let him go to the other dogs, but being in therapy work, thats not always allowed. So I've been practicing with him on the walk. I take a very high-value treat (a meatball) and when we see other dogs walking, or another dog barking in a yard, or through the fence..I tell him 'Watch me' and when he stops crying and looks at me, he gets a treat..Eventually (after about 2 times of this) he stops, and sits patiently without worrying about the other dogs..But its got to be something they REALLY want, something better than the reward they are already getting by whining for the other dog, so make it a good treat..So far so good at my house.
