Please help me.

I am new to this forum and would appreciate any help. I have a ten month old pitbull rescue who is an absolute sweetheart. She does however have issues with potty training and I don't know what the right thing to do is. She pees outside with no problem but other than her morning pooh, she does it in the house. Timing does not work because she never goes at the same time. Not even close. For example sometimes she goes at 11:00 a.m. other times at 1:00 p.m. There is no consistency. Also I have caught her eating her pooh. I know this is disgusting but does anyone have any ideas what I can to train her.

a couple of questions..

1 do you correct her for going in the wrong place

2 do you free feed or use a schedule for meals?

3 are her stools normal, firm and shaped right or loose and sort of runny?

4 what do you feed her?

Ditto Fawkese

Plus I'll add-it's up to you for consistency on times going out. Don't let her choose-take her out every hour or two where possible

And on eating poo...(no worries on gross-it's dog related topic-and all our dogs poop so no worries )
It can be medical-here's a link on poop eating...Has see been seen by a vet at all yet? Seen by a vet on the poop eating?

In answer to your questions, I feed her everyday at 6:30 am and 4:30 pm. At every meal she gets 1-1/2 cups of kibble (I feed her Wellness brand foods) and one quarter can of wet food. Her stool tends to be on the runny side but not necessarily diarrhea. I take her out sometimes and ten minutes later she does it in the house. By the way my dog Heidi and Clover could be twins. The only exception is Heidi has a white bib and white socks. She came with the name Heidi. It would not have been my first choice.

lol...clover also came with his name, and it wouldn't have been my first choice...something more like "goober" would have been appropriate

you didn't answer but i'm going to assume that you aren't correcting her for going in the house...that can lead to all sorts of problems...including eating the feces....
the feeding sounds good, as mikey said, the best way to deal with this is to just take her out more often...
when you do, go out with her, and the second her rump rises up, use a marker and reward, imo, a yummy treat works best...have a potty party...if she doesn't go, keep taking her out every 10-15 min until she does go...then have a potty party...seriously, and i would continue to do this even after she is going consistently for a while to really impress upon her how wonderful it is that she goes in the right place...

have you checked out the house training thread yet? there are more tips in there....

edit: with my apologies

meant to say that it is believed to be a cause...not that it is a cause..... sorry...

I am not computer savvy. My daughter just put her picture up on the Avatar. You can see her white shoes. I don't scold her because I never catch her in the act. It's always after the fact. At any rate I shall stick to taking her out every hour if necessary. Thanks for your tips.

I remember seeing something about eating poo on Animal Planet, although I don't recall the show, and it said something about there are not enough nutrients in the food and it makes their poo resemble the food, so they eat it.

Is she allowed to run around the house all day? If you start them in a smaller room it may be easier to house train them.

A couple of important hints I didn't see...
Take her out on the leash to the same spot/place so she knows what she's there for.

Give her a command when you are out there ( I like "hurry up!)

When she does the deed, big praise or reward for doing the deed.

YOU make the schedule. take her out at your convenience, if she doesn't go, bring her in and kennel her or keep her by your side. A dog in training is attached to me by leash if she's not in her kennel. Take her out again in 15 minutes. House training doesn't take any time at all, if done right. No corrections, ever...It's on you if she misses.

Keep the potty spot fairly clean...no one liikes walking in poop

Since the dogs can't talk there are many theories on poop eating...
