Sorry, it got late here in Ohio...Crio, yes, I'm familiar with the resource guarding techniques (trading, keeping low-value items out, etc...) but he's guarding the GD water-bowl? There are two mega-kongs stuffed with crunchy peanut butter, liver & salmon wellness treats (then frozen) running around on the floor here that they 'trade' by themselves...it's the GD water bowl that's got him worked up! I could throw a whole, live chicken on the floor, and they'd share it. But you better keep yer grubby mitts offa my water bowl (wooder, for those of you in the NE).

We'll see how things go today and tomorrow. I'll keep y'all posted. Sorry I only seem to come around when I have a problem lately.

Yeah, but there's nothing 'high value' about the water bowl...next he'll be resource guarding the toilet from me? (we'll fight about that one, and I believe I'll win).

Is he just REALLY thirsty?

There's not been a point in the trip where he didn't have acces to a LOT of water, even during the drive, there was ALWAYS water in a bowl in the back of the Jeep for them...

My heart goes out to you - I know you're a great owner and this must be so frustrating, especially out of the blue like this.
I'm clueless too, so probably wont be of much help but if he is not only guarding the water bowl, but also drinking excessively, that could be a sign of something more medical related rather than just resource guarding on it's own.

But if he's checked out fine at the Vets (no diabetes - UTI ect) could it be that he likes to mark and perhaps with him being in a new place, he feels the need to "mark" more often? Drinking more = ability to Mark more area?? I don't know, grasping at straws here.

Have you considered just giving them ice cubes as their water source for a few days to see if that makes a difference or Maybe give them each a water bowl on opposite sides of the room???
I wish you all the best and hope you can figure something out.

i feel for you here. i went through having a perfectly happy well socialized dog who loved going to the dog park. and after she was attacked by a dog everything changed. a big thing for you to do right now is step back and look at it all, and CHANGE YOUR THINKING. this was one of my big problems... i thought "my dogs not like that" "she doesnt do that". i had to be absolutely honest with myself first and say "yes, she does do that" so that i could start dealing with it. i think staying away from the dog park for a while would be best. give time to settle, especially because you dont want the fighting to keep progressing to where its constant. i agree with others that i see some resource guarding going on here, i would suspect that it actually could have been the dog park incident that triggered that. you may never know why it happened, but your head wasnt in the bucket with them, so its hard to tell. could have been a growl from the other dog, a wrong look, anything.....
