Is this just a Basset thing, or do all dogs do this?

Really the only dogs I have ever had were purebred Basset Hounds. Right now I am the proud mommy of two beautiful Basset 'furbabies' that just amaze me with their comical antics. I've always wondered if other dogs do these sorts of odd things, or if it's just entirely a 'Basset thing'.
For example, both of my Bassets that I have now get SOOOO excited right after they have a bath, that they run around the house at breakneck speed, which my husband and I call 'The Basset 500'. They tear around the house, roll around on all the furniture, barking and howling as if they're screaming with joy that they are nice and clean. Do other breeds of dogs do this after their bath?
Another thing that my Copper Hound does that amazes me is that he has always been fond of nasty stinky things. lol I'm talking about if one of the kids vomits on the floor, or a dead rotting bird in the yard, something disgusting but also full of odor. If Copper comes across something like this, he HAS to smear his face in it and then roll in it! I've even seen him do this with a pile of wet towels that have started to smell a little musty from sitting around awhile. Whenever we go out for a walk, I always have to yank the leash because he's always finding something gross that he wants to roll in, even other dogs' poop.
Is this just a 'Basset thing', or are there other dogs out there that actually partake in these silly yet odd behaviors? Let me know!

Haha Your not alone bassetlady80.. your stories sound the exact same as my two terrors- but mine are Jack Russel and Golden Retriever!!

My two go pyscho after baths- ALWAYS without fail, and Roxy my retriever in particular just LOVES anything gross. Poo, spew, dead things etc.

I'm sure you'll get some similar responses back from others. Its not just a Basset thing, its a dog thing

They call that "the zoomies" and all mine do it.

I was actually wondering as well about after the bath-Mikey goes crazy after a bath too-it's too funny! We let him outside after a bath to run and the bugger digs so he comes in wet-black-and-crazy! :P

Most dogs love stinky things to roll in. The explanation I was given (and it may be outdated or a 'wives tale' ) is that because they have no 'scent' from being fixed, they roll in fish etc. .....However I think I heard on a show they do it to mask their own scent for predators/prey relations...Not sure-but they do love stink.

It really upsets the sensibilities of my prim mother in law when her boy chi rolls in bird poo and dead things LMAO

lol, the rolling in the stink...i've read all sorts of explanations...my favorite is that the stink is like perfume....mmmm eau d dead and rotting, dab a little on your neck, drive the boys crazy!

and the zoomies...i have to film clover and the zoomies rotflmao! i think you should probably try to get some video of your guys zooming, it must be something to see a couple of bassets running around like that!

The explaination I read was that the dog was showing off his doggy "wealth" by wearing the scent of desireable things on him.

I mean we do it with shiny cars and new clothes...why can't dogs do it with rotten meat??

LOL my old dog snowball ran around after every bath, If we didn't have carpet I'm sure he would have gotten seriously hurt taking corners at that speed.
He also loved the rolling in smelly rotten stuff too, His favourite was other dogs poop yuck.
He was a westie.

HEY!!!! hello, neighbor!!!!! This is my next door neighbor who shares the other side of the duplex from me. They are so fun because we are dog lovers and kind of makes sure that nobody messes with each others animals when we arn't home and each others places. Its nice to have a neighbor like this cause there are so many people out there that are not easy to live next to with animals. Glad you made it here and am ready for all your bassett stories. Zelda and Snowflake were best friends but Zelda loves Feora too.

Thanks everyone. I really thought it was just a BAsset thing, but I think it's a canine thing in general. I think Bassets just make it look too silly. And thanks, neighbor. You guys are awesome and it's great to have positive mined, animal loving people living next to us.
