Dog laughter can be calming?

I saw on an animal planet show Dog Town they used a cd with "dog laughter" to calm a dog that was exstreamly nervous. It seemed to work in the show.
I thought it was really interesting and maybe I should try it as my dog gets really excited when we have company.

Has anyone ever heard of this, or have any other information on how it works?

I find it really adorable in the thought that a dogs laughter could make another dog happy.

They did studies on shelter dogs with it. They found that playing it over loudspeakers would quiet the kennels.

I've read its the kind of "out of breath" sound when they suck in air. Kind of like panting..
My dog seems interested in the noise but kind of confused.
