Attacked By Stranger Dog

I haven't been on this forum in a while haha, but I needed some advice on a little incident that happened yesterday.

Olive is my 5 month Cocker Spaniel x Aussie Shepard puppy. She's nearly housebroken and just got spayed so she's lugging around a neck cone. Lately, after I've been taking the trash out/recyling/whatever, I'll take her for a little stroll (with her leash on, of course).

So yesterday we're going to the little park behind my house, because I heard some kids and I thought they might want to interact with Olive. And no sooner do I turn around the corner when this GIANT black dog (like Mastiff or Sharpay or something) comes RUNNING at Olive. It was being held by this 7 or 8 year old girl who promptly tripped and fell while being dragged by the dog. So it's running full speed ahead at Olive, who's probably 1/5 the size of him, and all I can think is "HolycrapholycrapholyCRAP!!!!!!!!!" And the dog crashes into us. Almost immediatley Olive starts screaming and whining and is VERY scared, upset etc, and I'm trying to pick her up but I don't know if this stranger dog bites. I would kick him away but I would've kicked Olive.

The owners don't even come over. WTF? They just scream at the dog and finally he quits and goes over there, where they usher him into the backyard. No apology, no wondering if my dog was OK...thank GOODNESS he didn't bite her, or rip out any of her staples. I thoroughly examined her and she's fine...no stiffness or soreness today, either. I just feel so lucky that nothing bad happened. Although I question an 8 year old holding a dog probably 60-70 lbs. Guess not everyone thinks ahead...

yeah, you can't fix stupid...

i have found that if you hold out your hand in a "stop" palm out and stand authoratatively, most dogs will actually pause and stop... not that it will help the past, but if you ever find yourself in a similar situation...

naww poor olive. Has she seen any other dogs since then. Got to make sure she doesn't start being afraid of ALL dogs. It is a bit of a shame that you can't fix stupid though.

JR vs JR is never a pretty site!

while out with my miniature schnauzer called Benjy(my border collie called Skye was at home due to her artherites) i let him him off to play with his friend Max the german shepherd and the woman's other dog a jack russell mix who has agression issues with other dogs he doesn't know. but my schauzer's other friend came into the feild which is another jack russell called milo, which bobby the JR mix didn't know wasn't happy at all and the two dogs were taring into one another. So however, i had to scruff bobby a he was going to kill milo it looked like and then he must of felt like 'wow, thats not what happens every day' and reliesed milo and all four dogs who were male just ran around playing as if nothing happened.
