Due to having 2 young children under 8 and working from my home as a registered childminder I have been advised to get a new puppy as in 0-6 months old so that the dog can grow up in our enviroment.

Honestly I would say that's BAD advice. It's much more advisable when you have children to get an adult dog (from a shelter) because you can then choose one who is
1) potty trained (this would be an unimaginable pain when you have kids running around to worry about)
2) is screened and proven to be good around children.
TBH puppies and kids don't mix, and I would not want to worry about children and a puppy-it's just like having a baby-a LOT of work.
I'd look into shelters and rescues in your area, and find a dog who is good with children and even potty trained and crate trained. Make life easier for you
