Yeah it's hard. You want to push food but it's not the best thing to do. Frequent small meals of medium quality food (ie. not too fatty) are best. And increase slowly and then you can let them pig out

I am not sure but I think adopted dogs has a different look...I know that my other dogs love me and are loyal to me but there is something in these "ex-stray" dogs when they look at you!

I agree-my only non-adopted is Kahlua who is a princess. Everyone else seems to appreciate having a stable home and food supply-you can just tell. Both Chuck and Rupert were neglected, and they came a little overweight. And I'm not dieting either no way-they earned it-they aren't obese and they can eat unlimited food as long as they shall live. Mikey wasn't neglected but I'm certain he was abused aka trained with hitting. He was thin (not a rich shelter he was in and perhaps just not enough food) when we got hii-could see his ribs but not like Aries

and he just-you just know his love is greater becuase he appreciates you more then another you know?
It's a, I don't know, totally selfish thing for me, but I love the way my adopted animals love me-feels great to be the one to give them their 'forever home'

Could it be that they understand that they have a second chance with a new family??

I really believe this. I cannot wait for a few years to go by and Mikey to forget his past totally and just understand he'll always be with us no matter what he chews up and wrecks

Ditto-what a lucky dog to have someone who cares so much about him
