I have to ask you...He is in the shelter since yesterday and he eats there random foods with rather in low protein if I feed him Orijen when I get him home will that be ok? Should I take a bag of another food lower in protein and change it into Orijen slowly?

They probably feed whatever they can get or people may even donate food. If he's eating the same food at the shelter every day though you could try asking them what brand it is. I would just worry that he will have bad diahrea for the first week or so if he's switched directly over to a high quality food like Orijen. It may upset his stomach a bit. Getting a food lower in protein to mix in may be a good idea. Hopefully someone else on here can give you some advice as I'm not really sure.

He is 8 years old. I met him this morning and he seems ok with no issues but he needs a home and love now that he is old.
i'd go for it then. His personality is pretty set at that age LOL

one thing that pits tend to do, is have rough, bullying or inapropriate play styles. They can love other dogs, but can often attempt to "force" the other dog to play with them more often than alot of other breeds.

but yeah, get him get him get him!

He looks like a tiger! Pretty brindle.

He sounds like a great dog, who REALLY needs a home, and what better home than yours!

Go for it!!!

Oh please adopt him, he looks so thin and unloved, how can people be so damned cruel, I just dont get it. He is in need of a lovely big cuddle...

Keep us informed.

That caught my attention
Well to say the truth all my dogs play quite rough and although I don't think that an 8y/o Pit will have more energy than a 2y/o Mal or GSD I am kinda worry about how will he react around very energetic dogs.

I intend to keep him separate from the Mals, GSDs and Rotties at first only with Liza Chico and Emmy in another room and only let him play with the others supervised.

Anyway, today he visited the vet. He is fine and we wait for the blood exams to see more. Of course he needs some meds for worms and fleas etc ... I guess things that all stray dogs have.

This afternoon I'll go get him home. Should I buy a bag with a low protein food for the first month?
When I took him to the vet and walk him out of the shelter he was so happy!! He was pushing his head against my leg for a pet

I think you should buy a small bag of low protein dog and until that bag is gone, mix it in with the Orijen to get him used to it just in case. especially if he has stuff like fleas and worms, you don't want him to have upset tummy issues as well.

he is so cute congrats.

Yeah you are probably right! I'll get a bag with low protein food...any suggestions for this??

Also, I am currently feeding my dogs a mix of Orijen 6 Fish and Orijen All breeds....I know that there is a formula Orijen Senior all breeds and this pit is 8y/o so I was thinking to go for it. What do you think?
