Thinking of adopting a Pit...

Well I am seriously thinking of adopting a poor pit that someone abandoned.
The shelter is already overpopulated and cannot keep the dog so pretty soon he will be back to the streets. He doesn't know how to live alone and he is way underweight.

The fact is that I know nothing about pits except what you can find in the web. Any tips? Anything that I should be careful about?

They told me that he is a little bit trained and he is doing great with other dogs and animals

You can share some stories of your pits if you like so that I can see how it is to live with a pit...
I haven't really decided yet but I can see my father's excitement already

If he doesn't have any DA issues, I don't think you have to approach him any different than any other dog. He is going to need lots of exercise, but I know all of your dogs get tons.

I think it's a great idea.

I am a member on a pitbull forum, and really it seems like one of the most common "problems" is dog aggression. This is not the case for ALL pitbulls, but I have heard plenty of stories of people even owning two pits as babies that later grew up to not get along. Which means they had to have seperate play times and one would have to be in another room while the other was out. This can go with any dog though, it's just more common in certain breeds. If this dog is already an adult you should be able to get an idea if he's friendly towards other dogs or not. I would definitely have your pups meet the new guy before you bring him home. Otherwise there isn't much difference than any other dog. Many are quite strong and can be big pullers on walks, but overall they are a very loyal friendly dog that loves human companionship.

He is 8 years old. I met him this morning and he seems ok with no issues but he needs a home and love now that he is old. I think they abandoned him cause he is old. The thing is that either someone will adopt him in the next 2 days or he will be back in the streets. Tomorrow he will visit my vet for exams etc.

I have seen him around a gsd in the shelter and he was good nothing strange or aggressive ... he was tired with not much energy. Yeah he is very skinny even more than you can see in the pic.

Poor guy I hope he's not sick besides the fact of being under weight.

He does have a beautiful brindle coat
