So I was giving my experience on the breed, along with them not participating in activities like agility...my personal experience with the breed. Again I think this is a breed that most people get for the looks and to be the cute little dog, I rarely see any even with manners.

Oh and any weekly brushing that doesnt involve a quick swoop with a zoom groom is constant brushing to me I have all short haired dogs except for one which has an undercoat.

Isn't that how all people chose their dogs? Sure they did research, but I believe everyone first went with looks first. It's the same way we look at the opposite sex. We tend to go for ones who look really good. The same goes for any type of pet or dog. When the German Shepherd started to become popular, they went for looks first and than everything else last, that is why the hip joints on the GSD is so bad. Breeders wanted to change the look because of beauty. So don't say that that is the reason why people get papillons. Everyone gets their dogs based on looks first.

But it takes smart people, (Like most of us here.) who do our research to make sure they are a fit for our life style. Or we have someone ask for help if we can't decide or no little about dog breeds. I never thought in a million years I would own a flat nosed dog because to me they looked weird but quess what? When my grandfather died, my older sister gave me her pug. He was so gentle and comforted me, I fell in love. At times my friends would make fun of him (What happened, did he run and slam into a wall...) But, I fell in love with flat nosed dogs because of him. And than of course the pekinies, but they require lots of grooming. (I will own one of these in the future when I move to a place where they do have groomers and 24/7 pet clinic.)

So I would like to say, I have been doing a lot of thinking about what you guys were saying and I still don't agree with some of you, but I have taken it into consideration. As it stands now, I will wait for at least a year and a half to get any dog. I'm planning on moving next summer (If nothing happens.) and it might be too much stress on myself with two dogs being crated and flown into Anchorage. In the mean time, I'm going to wait until things settle down. BUT I am dead set on owning a Papi.

^_^

Thanks guys.

Um clearly you did not understand me...I never said we shouldn't base our choice on looks, I said that is a breed, much like many small breeds, where people get the dog on looks and here I meant ONLY for looks. Its my opinion so ill stick with it how many chi's do you see trained and well mannered? Me...very few. Mine do all sorts of tricks and are very well mannered and behaved.

No no no no no! (Stomps foot) your opinion doesn't count... Just joking.

Yeah I'm sure that is why most people do go for toy breed dogs. It doesn't help that some of the breeds are used in the t.v. buisness and people want to get that kind of dog. (101 Dalmations, Beverily Hill Chihuahua, Underdog, cat's and dog, ect.)

Okay, I see your opinion. ^_^

And that is why I have no doubt you'll find that if you dig through the statistics (if you can actually get them) that a medium to large size black dog has the least chance of being adopted through a shelter or rescue.

I know. My ex co worker who moved back to north carolina had told me they had adopted a black coated hound mix. Apperantly he had been there for almost two years and no body wanted him. She couldn't understand why and I had told her that black dogs seem to have less of a chance finding a home than a colored coated dog like brown with white patches or liver red with white patches, ect. Although I don't think size really matters. Now I feel like going through and see what I can find. Thank you Joe for the challenge. (Even if it wasn't a challenge.. Still. )
