Well over the past week I have been volunteering at PAWS animal shelter. I'm sure ya'll have heard me debating on breeder or shelter, and after caring for these dogs for a week I am 100% on shelter! I always wanted an AKC puppy that I could raise and show, and do stuff with like agility and obediance. I was convinced they could only do it. I admit I was wrong, way wrong.
All the dogs here had some sort of problem I admit, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I walked all of the dogs in the shelter and only a hand full do good on a leash, but like I said, they have potential to learn. Every single one of them do. I bonded with a few dogs very quickly, and if I had permission and the money I'd adopt them, in a heart-beat!
Four of them attacked my heart, and I teared up a little when I left. Everytime I left to be exact.
One was Beaner, a little min pin/ chihuahua mix. Even though I have three small dogs, I have to say I do not like small dogs. At all. I only put up with mine because I rescued them and they are special. Well Beaner, he was one of three chi's I didn't clean yet so I took a look at him. I sat down for a minute because he couldn't step on me and it hurt and I was tired after cleaning 55 dog pens. Beaner jumped right in my lap and I was in love! I don't know how he did it, but he did xD I didn't even like Java until a few days after getting him home, I just adopted him because I was saving a life, I loved his coloring, he was old and I figured it would be kind, and his eyes tugged at my heart strings. Ohh and I couldn't adopt a big dog yet. Well here's Beaner
Had to crop me out of the picture lol. Bad hair day and just got done walking a 150lb great dane mix...
And now for Hercules! He was the first dog I took out, and he was amazing. He pulled on the lady when she got him out, but right when she handed me the leash he sat, and walked firmly with me. He just needs a dominant owner, that knows their stuff.
Then there was Charlie and Broady. I don't have a picture of Broady, but he resembled more of a fox red lab. He was red, huge feet, thick tail, and broad body. They were terrier/shepherd/lab/terrier/chow. Their tongues were black and the others in the litter were wire-haired with a shepherd look. Also, big for their age.
Charlie is the one In the picture. Broady was my favorite from the start but when Charlie, the sweet mellow pup, made his way to me, I couldn't help but carass him!
Well I love volunteering! I plan to do it every Saturday. I can't have a big dog like I want so this is the next best thing.
