Moving to London - Rehoming a dog (a "friend")

This is a discussion on Moving to London - Rehoming a dog (a "friend") within the Dog Adoption and Rescue forums, part of the Puppies and New Additions category; I don't know where to start. I think it's mostly a vent (is that the right word?...or it's rant? sorry!!). There is this guy...a friend ...

Moving to London - Rehoming a dog (a "friend")

I don't know where to start. I think it's mostly a vent (is that the right word?...or it's rant? sorry!!).
There is this guy...a friend I met when I first came to UK with a 3y/o Boxer mix.
He is visiting me 3-4 times a week with his dog to play with my dogs in the farm and do some training with my old-man.

Now he is moving to London and he is leaving his dog because he says there is no space for a dog there. Well I'm really angry with him cause he asked me to take his dog and he said this like nothing is going on!

There has been 1,5 weeks since then. At first I told him I can't cause I'm full! I tried to convince him that he can take the dog with him...but I didn't change his mind! He is moving this Friday and the dog will go to a shelter (I hope).

Now my question. Although I have already many dogs another one won't be a real problem (but I don't want another dog right now) and maybe I can find a good home for him. Am I too sensitive?? Should I let him do what he thinks best?...I really don't know. I feel bad I wasn't able to convince him keep the dog. I feel I'm a looser.

I would take the dog with the understanding that I may not be able to find it a good home. I don't know what your shelters are like over there, but here older and larger dogs are usually not adopted out. Many people want puppies or cut fuzzy lap dogs. That is one reason why I am going to adopt an older female bloodhound when Cleo's time comes.

LOL, Iam in a different camp. To me you set a limit and stick to it. Being unable to say no is how people end up with 30 dogs or 100 cats and on the news JMHO.

can you maybe contact a boxer rescue for him?

I think we can handle as family 2-3 more dogs but that's not a good idea!! Ok we love dogs but I think we have enough.

I contacted a rescue in London and they told me to wait a week or so to find a foster family for him. I worry about that cause I don't know much about rescues...will they take the dog or I'll stay with another dog for a long time waiting for them??

i'm totally in the middle on this... if i could take the dog i would, but you already have a gillion dogs, and should not feel obligated to take his after you already said no... especially when he seems to be looking for an easy out from his responsibility...

i think that contacting a boxer rescue sounds like a great solution....

and don't worry about venting/ranting (they're almost the same, but a rant is maybe a bit more intense ) the situation is a bummer and you have every right/reason to be annoyed with someone who treats dog ownership so flippantly...

Your not a loser.. You do have a big family and you cant save them all.. I know that sounds mean to say but its true. You just have to know when to say, I have done what I can, this is what I can do and Im doing it.

But ya know, if you really want to help then do IF its affordable to you..

Really though, I think sometimes we just have to know when to turn and hope someone comes to the rescue because it isnt like you havnt allready for your guys you have.

You are kind hearted, you just need to know when you can be tugged at and when you just cant.

ya, around here its hard to get any place pet friendly so if you do get a place, it usually says small dog only.. So that makes it hard for large dogs to get adopted. But we have a welcome wagon that ships adoptable dogs from our shelter of a low adoption rate to a shelter in Colorado that has a high adoption rate. They get adopted out there.

I contacted a rescue center in London again today. They told me they can find a foster family for him until someone adopt him in 10-15 days. I'm supposed to keep the dog until then. I can do this...but will they get the dog or I'll stuck with another one for several months?? I don't want that to happen! I have no experience about rescues

Sorry for saying this but I HATE this boy!! Anyway, my problem is not financial, is TIME! I have enough dogs to have a full day with them. I'm not getting another one.

Again I'm really sorry for upsetting you (is that right in english??) maybe I shouldn't have shared this.

sounds good...if its just a week or two...if it falls through tho...you're going to be stuck....as long as you can afford to be stuck, just in case...go for it.

just don't fall in love with the dog! LOL

You know that's what I'm afraid of ...for now I'll let him believe that I won't keep the dog...who knows he may change his mind last minute!

Also I plan to visit him tomorrow to see what he is planing.
